6th Floor, Youyi Building, Freetown, 31 August, 2021- The United States of America’s Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone, David Reimer, has paid a friendly visit to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Amb. Tamba Lamina and his team including the Deputy Minister, Deputy Secretary, Directors and Chairperson of various units of the Ministry.
In his statement, Ambassador Reimer stated that the purpose of his visit was to get au-fait with the mandates of the Local Government Ministry and the challenges it faces in the course of executing its mandates, adding that he was as well willing to answer questions about US Embassy that maybe of interest to the Minister or his team.
Minister Lamina welcomed the U.S envoy to his Ministry and thanked him for expressing interest to know the mandates of MLGRD. He started by describing his Ministry as one that has a central focus of strengthening local governance and decentralization.
He continued by outlining the different components of the Ministry ranging from Local Councils, provincial, District and Chiefdom Administrations.
Minister Lamina stated the successes MLGRD has attained under his leadership and highlighted capacity building and vehicular challenge as key among the challenges the Ministry is contending with currently.
The Deputy Minister of MLGRD and the Director of Local Government also made meaningful contributions during the meeting.
